Brief Review of Sequels to “Planet of the Apes”
This is a concise review of the sequels to the original version of the film “Planet of the Apes” (1968).
“Beneath the Planet of the Apes” (1970) contains interesting commentary about war, but the addition of a population of mutant, genius humans, whereas earlier all the native humans were dumb mutes, makes the series seem past its prime. “Escape from the Planet of the Apes” (1971) contains the whimsical situation of Cornelius and Zira arriving in 1970s Los Angeles, but the film contains more humor and less insight than the original. “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes” (1972) has a plot almost as good as the original and explains the backstory well. “Battle for the Planet of the Apes” (1973) also has a strong plot and the film has a nice ending, as well.
